D'banj Challenges Don Jazzy To Tell The Truth

26/Jan/2015  //  279 Viewers

Nigerian singer-songwriter and harmonica player, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has revealed fully the truth behind the Mo’hits split.

Last week, we saw a snippet from an interview D’banj granted to Olisa Adibua on his chat show, ‘The Truth’. In the interview, D’banj talked about how he started his career, how he and Don Jazzy met, and what led to Mo’Hits Record’s break up, and the deal with American rapper, Kanye West.

On bonding with Don Jazzy, D’banj said:

We bonded before we left the UK because Jazzy fell out with his partnership with JJC. Because I was privileged to be his friend to know what had happened and what was happening back home.Rugged man had reached out to me once and told me the kind of money they were collecting, which when I converted it it was like 1,800 pounds or $2,000 per show and I was like whatt? The people raining in the industry were styl-plus,2face’s plantashun boys.

Before we even did anything, we listened to what they were playing in Nigeria.Jazzy was fond of that ..Oh boy this one don dey make money oh..(we listen)..We listened to music of everyone making money ..So when I found out he had major issues with JJC , I said “Oh boy, lets go back home”.
So we came back, my parents were here.By then he had moved all his family over there. We came back in 2004 and moved straight into my mum’s boys quarter in Mary land.We got a first car,Toyota Privera from her ..We said we will pay her later .Bad car oh..and we paid her for it eventually. We got Tongolo, the first video and released it in November, just before Christmas and that was it…

On What caused the Mo-hits split and what made him decided to leave, D’banj said:

What made me? (a light banter)You guys have not spoken to Jazzy? Jazzy.tell them the truth mehn..Come and tell them these people the truth..
What broke Mohits..Hmmn Difference of opinion..First of all it wasn’t me.We had traveled and left Don Jazzy in New York with some of the management team because he had a production deal.We were trying to go global..I would love if you had the Truth from Jazzy too, it would have been better.
I met Kanye west, but you all know I am a businessman. But there were two different deals. One he saw I was an artist, and he wanted to sign that artist. Then this artist said “I have a producer .We have the best thing coming from Africa…And he was sold. And then we flew to New York

Paying money to Kanye

I got an artiste deal.I got a standard artiste deal because Kanye wanted to sign me as an artist. Then I said nooo..I’m a businessman.I have a record label can do partnership. It was a partnership between Mohits record,Goodmusic and Def Jam records. It wasn’t going to be Dbanj and Donjazzy.I was just the first part of the deal. There was also a production deal because Kanye loved Jazzy’s sound ..

On Don Jazzy and the Kanye Deal

He saw the big picture but some people are real. You can force a horse to a river, but you can’t force it to drink water ..

But what really caused the split

Eh first person if I will be truthful will be Dr Sid (Laughs). We came back from New York and had a meeting with Don Jazzy..And Jazzy expressed his discomfort like listen, this place is too expensive, we are spending money ..Going to stay there, things dey happen for Nigeria, we are already bosses here..We don’t need all this ..I’m like we are almost there. It is expensive but we can’t guarantee because it’s a doggy world out there..I said to him, listen brother, this is not uncertainty. For Kanye West to see us, na God..and he said he didn’t want us to do it again ..He wasn’t interested. But I told him because I had sensed it before the last concert we had. I told the lawyers in New York. They were trying to get him to come around but he didn’t .
So we had that meeting and he said he didn’t want me as a partner again. That there was a lot ..I told him to give me 6 months..to convince him again..maybe to sell my share to someone else, take the money to go and try again ..I saw it wasn’t working and he formed a synergy with SID. It was clear. He wasn’t comfortable around me. My mistake was, I wasn’t sensitive enough to have noticed ..
So December 2011, during a general meeting after 6 months, he said he had thought about it and wasn’t interested ..Infact, not just him..That this one is not interested, this one is not interested (Mohits members)..I said ah! I was heartbroken. K-switch is my brother..But the truth? K-switch was with them ..

People were not comfortable..Now I look at it, maybe I did change..We all changed ..It wasn’t money. It was because we ran Mohits record like a family. That’s why we failed.”

The "Modern Family" bombshell and the "True Blood" hunk finally took things public and confirmed their engagement news. (Though, for many, seeing Vergara sport that planet-sized engagement ring in recent weeks has been confirmation enough.)

The 42-year-old actress, who squeezed into a red, curve-hugging Donna Karan Atelier gown, spoke openly about the proposal and the pending nuptials during her red carpet interviews.

Nigeria: Muna Obiekwe - I Have Been Living Without Kidney for Three Years - Emma Ugolee

Nigeria: Muna Obiekwe - I Have Been Living Without Kidney for Three Years - Emma Ugolee

26/Jan/2015  //  941 Viewers

Following the death of Nollywood actor, Muna Obiekwe, last Sunday, after a protracted battle with failing kidney which finally gave in on Sunday, an air of gloom descended on the industry, prompting many to question their lifestyles and warning colleagues to do the same. Tributes began to pour in for the deceased, just as colleagues exchanged messages of love, sharing the loss and embracing in a sombre camaraderie that only could come from losing a dear one.

Amid the tears, the sobs and sheer disbelief is a man who must feel the loss than most people. Not because he is a kin or of same family with the deceased but because he suffers from the same ailment from which his colleague has just passed away. To him, death is never far away. He had come close to seeing it many times but has always won. The man is Emma Ugolee, former on-air-personality.

"Too many phone calls last night only with everyone just checking to see how I was doing. It all made sense when news filtered in that Muna Obiekwe had just died from a disease I've battled for over three years now. The general concern being the psychological impact of being reminded of the likelihood of one's demise owing to the unpredictable and deadly nature of living without a kidney," he recalled his experience a night after Muna's death.

"For closer friends, aware that I had lost 10 associates to this struggle. Three being in the last Three months and that each one lived with issues less complicated than mine. Calling me was like checking up on a pal on death row," he observed somberly.

But Emma Ugolee, as much as he may see himself on death row, isn't sitting helplessly, expecting the hangman to come with the noose. He has hope and he shared it with colleagues:

"Now it was time to return the calls and assure every single one that the unfortunate event is no reason to lose faith," he said

"It's no proof that I must toe a similar line. That I am not holier than those whose journeys have ended and thus wise enough to understand that logic does not explain the sustaining power of grace. The fact that a pattern surrounds you, does not mean your future has been moulded by it. Your faith, your vision, aspiration and motivation must tower above your environment all the time. What around you shakes your faith in you? What around you weakens your resolve to try? What tempts you to want to conform? Nothing, should be the only answer you know," he counselled.

Just How Delicate is the Brain? Find Out! Not for the Squeamish!

Have your children ever been assigned the experiment of taking raw eggs and dropping them from a great height without breaking? We have. The goal is for the child to devise a protective strategy to prevent the egg from breaking using materials such as bubble wrap, rubber bands, paper, etc. The experiment teaches physics for sure, but our experiment went on to liken the egg to the human brain and push home how important it is to protect the fragile the brain.

The video below takes the lesson a huge step further…showing how delicate the brain is even under just its own weight. Warning, the video is pretty graphic so if you are squeamish don’t say we didn’t warn you!

If you’ve got a child who is reluctant to wear that bike helmet though, this is just the video they need to see!

Please share!

Miss Columbia becomes Miss Universe; Miss USA first runner-up

Miss Columbia becomes Miss Universe; Miss USA first runner-up

26/Jan/2015  //  227 Viewers

Miss Colombia Paulina Vega has been crowned Miss Universe, beating out first runner-up Miss USA Nia Sanchez and contestants from more than 80 other countries at Sunday’s pageant in Miami.

Vega, a 22-year-old student of business administration from Barranquilla, Colombia, said the contests leading up to Miss Universe were the first she had participated in. She also said they would be her last as she would be eager to return to her studies in Colombia after her reign.

“It will be a dream come true to represent the woman of today. A woman that not only cares about being beautiful and being glamorous, but also cares about being a professional, intelligent, hard-working person,” Vega had said earlier in the week in talking about the role of the winner.

Following Sanchez, the 24-year-old Miss USA from Las Vegas, the second runner-up was Miss Ukraine Diana Harkusha.

Miss Jamaica Kaci Fennell and Miss Netherlands Yasmin Verheijen were also among the top five, emerging from the field of 88 contestants.

Sanchez had spoken earlier of looking forward to the often-dreaded interview portion. She had been running practice questions all week with her roommate Miss Australia Tegan Martin, who made it to the top ten.

Sanchez has a fourth-degree black belt in tae kwon do and has traveled the country teaching others. She spoke previously about equipping women to defend themselves against crime.

“It’s just something that’s so prevalent in our society and why not empower women to take control of a dangerous situation into their own hand,” she said.

“Today Show” personality Natalie Morales served as host of the show. Miss Colombia was crowned by the outgoing Miss Universe, Gabriela Isler of Venezuela. The broadcast included performances by singers Nick Jonas and Prince Royce.

Crowd favorite Miss Venezuela Migbelis Lynette Castellanos was cut after the top 10. She had tremendous support and pressure locally and back home. The Miami suburb of Doral, which was host to the women during their stay, is also known as “Doralzuela” for its many Venezuelan residents. Three of the last six Miss Universe titles have gone to Venezuela, where beauty pageants are big business.

While the quality of this video is a little dated, it’s definitely a must watch! Not only is the legendary actor and comedian Robin Williams paling around with Koko, a gorilla who is fluent in American Sign Language, but what these two end of doing together is completely and utterly adorable!

Watching a gentle Williams interact with Koko will melt your heart. At one point, right after Koko takes off and wears Williams’ eye glasses, she begins to go through his pockets and steals his wallet! Then, suddenly, Koko starts signing “tickle” to Williams. This sweet gorilla wants nothing more than to get tickled by this Hollywood heavyweight. Of course Williams obliged and cuteness ensures.

Rest in peace, Robin. You will be missed. Please SHARE this beautiful video.

Inside EW's Screen Actors Guild Awards party

Inside EW's Screen Actors Guild Awards party

25/Jan/2015  //  189 Viewers

This weekend’s awards season festivities got a jump start Saturday night at Entertainment Weekly’s Screen Actors Guild Awards Party. Film and television stars gathered at the Chateau Marmont, just off bustling Sunset Boulevard, to celebrate this year’s nominees.

Partygoers included Laverne Cox, Robert Duvall, Julie Bowen, Eric Dane, Natasha Lyonne, Alfred Enoch, Tyler James Williams, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Laura Carmichael, Rhea Seehorn, Alysia Reiner, Tyler Ritter, Laura Prepon, Reid Scott, Lauren Potter, and more.

The cast of Orange is the New Black had plenty to celebrate, since the show is heading into the SAG Awards today with two nominations: Uzo Aduba for Outstanding Performance in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. “It’s an amazingly diverse group of women,” said Lauren Lapkus, who plays the doe-eyed, rookie correctional officer, Susan Fischer. “That’s such a rare thing to see on TV. I think it’s cool for people to see a really strong, female-driven cast, a female-driven story, and so many different perspectives on that.”

Adds Catherine Curtin, who plays correctional officer Wanda Bell: “There’s a great need for dialogue about [the U.S. criminal justice system] for people to understand that second chances should be in order… Putting a face and a heart and a soul and a mind to people who made a mistake, maybe they’re really good people, touches the heartstrings of our country. I think we have a very sympathetic nation.”

Game of Thrones also has much to look forward to at the ceremony, where the show will be up for three SAG Awards: Peter Dinklage for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series, Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama Series, and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

According to Maisie Williams, a.k.a Arya Stark, one of Thrones‘ strengths is its willingness to let its characters to fluctuate between good and bad. “With any good character in this show, people are sort of rooting for them,” Williams said. “Going through the stuff that Arya goes through, you don’t stay that good character. Your visions of what’s good and what’s not get a bit skewed.”

Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, also saw a big transformation in her character. “[Last season] ended on a massive high for her, for once, on Game of Thrones,” she said. “[Sansa] shed her old skin, she molded that off, and now she’s this new, hardcore, powerful woman.”

When they weren’t busy chatting, guests at the party enjoyed a photobooth, a milk and cookies bar, and a candy station. Actors mingled (Cox introduced herself to Enoch, and excused herself for needing to take a moment to “fan girl”), partied it up (the Game of Thrones girls got down on the dance floor), and got their sugar fix (Jackie Cruz and Diane Guerrero were spotted with grab bags filled with the like of sour gummies, Peeps, Nerds, and more). All that energy will undoubtedly come in handy tonight; now that the party is over, the SAG Awards are finally about to begin.
