World view: Bhutan's first international arts festival
This picture, taken by the country’s king, no less, shows one of the world’s most remote and isolated nations – which is dipping its toe into the global festival market. The first Bhutan International Festival will run from 14-23 February, with the aim of promoting local arts and creative industries. Making use of its spectacular Himalayan setting, the programme includes film, art, music and food. The Queen of Bhutan is patron, and international partners include the UK’s Eden Project, Woodstock Film Festival and TEDx, who will be discussing ‘When happiness doesn’t make us happy’.
